Shaking Tradition

Born in Amamioshima, November 26, 1983, raised in Kyoto. Director of arcsense.

Japanese tiles have been used as roofing material for some 1,400 years. Its production involves “smoking,” an original process not done in other countries. Japanese roof tiles keep out rain and regulate humidity, being a part of people’s lives and making up the Japanese landscape for a long time. Hoping to make the joint waves of tiles of tiled roof a standard scene some hundred or two hundred years from now, I am striving as a roof tile artisan.

Traditions need to be evolved while protected. By challenging this, wanting the world to know more about the magnificence of Japanese traditional techniques, and wanting Japanese people to see them in a new light, I have established arcsense with other like-minded artisans. We at arcsense will do our best to provide works of the highest level according to the time, circumstances, and needs of the customer while keeping tradition.
